Chapter iii

The long night ahead


Jill woke up in a hospital bed with her friends and family about her. To her left she saw Desiree and Isabella; to her right, baby brother, James Jr. and her father, James Sr. Her father rubbed her cheek and asked her
"Is there anything you want baby?"
She wanted to say that she wanted to see the rat that had saved her but, she refrained knowing how her brother gets about her personal life. Then, almost as if it were an instant cosmic answer to her wish, the nurse came in saying that she had another visitor. It was him.
"Hey, there; just thought I'd drop in and see how you were doing."
"Hey, hey! ease off rodent!" Junior said while barring Jacob access to his sister.
"Cool it, Baby Brother it's partly my fault anyway. Well, mostly my fault. I don't know what I'm even doing here; I wasn't even hurt; you and Dad worry too much."
"But..."
